The Palace of Zakupy served as a summer residence to the austrian emperor Ferdinand I. The Benevolent. It has been his summer seat for 24 years.
Previously it has been owned by his nephew, son of the emperor Napoleon I., Napoleon II. (The Eaglet), who is also known as the Duke of Reichstadt (Reichstadt=Zakupy).
Many more of the members of the imperal family dwelt within its walls. The Emperor Franz Joseph I., crown prince Rudolph and the list goes on.
It also witnessed the morganatic wedding between the heir to the austrian throne Franz Ferdinand d´Este and the countess Sophie Chotek.
