Czernica Castle Pałac w Czernicy
DID YOU KNOW THAT ...
The palace in Czernica was built in 1543 as a result of the reconstruction of the castle that had previously existed in this place
The palace in Czernica was built in 1543 as a result of the reconstruction of the castle that had previously existed in this place, belonging to the knights von Langenof. The new building was a three-winged Renaissance manor house surrounded by a moat. In 1858 the building was significantly damaged. During the reconstruction, the fortifications were removed, and the manor itself was rebuilt again, giving it a Neo-Renaissance style reminiscent of French castles on the Loire. In 1911, a massive, semicircular tower with a conical roof was built in the north-western corner. Until 1945, the palace was in the hands of the von Klitzing family, which at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries made the last reconstruction and modernization of the seat. The main entrance was added and electrical and central heating installations were installed. After the war, the facility was taken over by the District Fuel Trade Company in Wrocław, then it was used by the Provincial Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra.
The palace in Czernica is a two-story building erected on a horseshoe plan. The entire palace and park complex underwent a thorough renovation, after which the interesting interiors, in particular the wall paintings in the palace chapel from 1563, gained a new splendour. The 5-hectare park surrounded by a stone wall, now maintained, has many dendrological specimens and is an excellent example of this type of monuments in the Jeleniogórska Valley. The building is part of the palace complex, which also includes a chapel.
Since 1992 Czernica Castle has been privately owned.
